Love Your Liver

How do we support our liver?

Did you know that certain foods can help support your liver and it's detoxification processes? Here are some of my favorite foods to try that can help:

Crucifererous Vegetables like Brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and kale contain certain compounds that can help stimulate liver detoxification pathways and promote the elimination of excess estrogen.

Berries like strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries are loaded with antioxidants that can help protect the liver and support its detoxification processes.

Citrus Fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruits contain compounds that can help stimulate liver enzymes and promote the elimination of toxins, including excess estrogen.

Green Tea is rich in catechins, antioxidants that can help protect the liver and support its detoxification processes.

Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound that can help stimulate the liver detoxification pathways and promote the elimination of toxins.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids found in fatty fish like salmon and sardines along with flaxseeds and chia seeds help reduce inflammation in the body and support liver function.

Fiber -an essential nutrient binds and transports excess bile acids out of our system preventing reabsorption by the liver. Include; leafy greens, beans, spices, apples, and herbs like cilantro.

Reduce Sugar. When we pay attention to how much sugar we are actually eating, especially the hidden sugar in processed foods like mayonnaise, salad dressings, ketchup, barbecue sauce. granola bars, yogurt, energy drinks, and cereals to name a few! Choose whole fruit for a sweet treat while reducing the sugar and starch in your diet. This will support balanced blood sugar, reduce insulin resistance which is a precursor to type 2 diabetes and address high blood pressure more effectively than reducing sodium.

Cha Cha Chimichurri
