Just 5 simple ingredients that you can keep on hand when you "just need some crunch".
All of these ingredients are gluten-free, grain-free, Whole30 compliant and paleo-friendly too. They're low in carbs and perfect for both vegans and vegetarians.
The Magic 5.
Flax Seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, great for both brain and heart health along with fiber and protein, you will feel full and energized.
Chia Seeds also contain protein and omega-3's and are great at reducing blood sugar levels. They are the hero in jelling all the seeds together.
Sunflower & Pumpkin Seeds both contain high levels of anti-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids. They can help to reduce blood pressure and support healthy heart function.
Sesame Seeds are nutritional powerhouses with heart healthy fats, plant protein, fiber, and esssential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Eating them regularly can lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation and help regulate blood pressure.
Magic Crackers
Ingredients.
1/2 cup + 2 tbsp. flax seeds
1/3 cup chia seeds
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup sesame seeds [black or white]
1 1/3 cups water
1/4 tsp. sea salt
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
Method.
Heat oven to 325 degrees F.
In a large bowl. combine flax, chia, sesame, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds.
Add sea salt, garlic and onion powder, mix well.
Add water and mix again.
Let mixture rest 10 minutes, until the seeds absorb all the liquid and form a thick gel-like consistency.
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and spread seed mixture evenly in a thin layer on parchment paper.
Score crackers into squares before baking to make it easy to brake apart.
Bake for 55 minutes, until crackers feel dry to touch and are golden brown.
Turn off oven and leave crackers inside oven to cool down completely with the residual heat.
This step is essential to ensure that the crackers get very crispy - Magic!
