Easy Oven Chicken Shawarma

This Chicken Shawarma is so flavorful and super easy to create in your oven. The marinade uses everyday spices that will infuse the chicken with those exotic Middle Eastern flavors and you will be amazed at how delicious this tastes!





 

Ingredients.

Marinade.

  • 1 tbsp. Coriander

  • 1 tbsp. Cumin

  • 1 tsp. Cardamon

  • 1 tbsp. Smoky Paprika

  • 1 tsp. Black Pepper

  • 1/2 tsp. Cayenne Pepper

  • 2 tsp. Kosher Salt

  • 1 Lemon, juiced

  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil


  • 3 lbs. boneless, skinless Chicken Thighs

  • 1 large Onion, halved

  • 4 wooden skewers


Method.

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  2. In a large bowl, combine marinade ingredients and pour over chicken thighs.

  3. Cover chicken and refrigerate chicken 4 hours or overnight.

  4. Peel onion and cut in half.

  5. Place onion half in a cast iron skillet. You can use foil under onion for easier clean-up.

  6. Stick wooden skewers in onion.

  7. Slide chicken thighs over skewers.

  8. Slide the other onion half over chicken, pressing down to secure chicken.

  9. Lightly drizzle with olive oil.

  10. Bake chicken for 1.5 hours or until chicken reaches 165 degrees.

  11. Check chicken to make sure it doesn't overcook.

  12. Remove chicken from oven and allow to rest 10 minutes.

  13. Slice chicken into thin slices, removing the skewers.

  14. Chop the onion and mix with the chicken.



Yogurt Sauce.

Mix together;

  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt

  • 1 clove Garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp. Cumin

  • Lemon half, juiced

  • Salt & Pepper to taste



To Serve.

Slice chicken and pile on a platter alongside the yogurt sauce, a simple salad, flat bread or cauliflower rice. You can also add some Tahini which would be delicious too.
